The insulation material is one of the most important materials in transformers. Its performance and quality directly affect the reliability of transformer operation and transformer service life. In recent years, new insulating materials used in transformer products have emerged in an endless stream. With the rapid development of science and technology, the application of electrical equipment such as motors and transformers has become increasingly widespread. The reliability and service life of the transformer operation depend to a large extent on the insulation material used. Insulation materials are increasingly valued by transformer design and manufacturing personnel. In the past two decades, new products, new technologies and new theories of transformer insulation materials have emerged and developed continuously, which has made transformer insulation materials and their applications form a very important subject.

Insulation Materials

Insulating materials, also known as dielectrics, are materials with high resistivity and low electrical conductivity. Insulating materials can be used to isolate conductors that are charged or at different potentials, allowing current to flow in a certain direction. In transformer products, the insulating material also plays the role of heat dissipation, cooling, support, fixing, arc extinguishing, potential gradient improvement, moisture proof, mildew proof and conductor protection. Insulation materials are classified according to voltage class: generally divided into: Y (90 ° C), A (105), E (120 ° C), B (130 ° C), F (155 ° C), H (180 ° C), C (greater than 180 °C). The heat resistance rating of the transformer insulation refers to the maximum temperature that the insulation material is allowed to withstand in the transformer. If the insulating material is used correctly, the life of the material can be guaranteed for 20 years. Otherwise, it will be based on the 8°C law (for every 8°C increase in Class A insulation temperature, the service life will be reduced by half, Class B insulation is 10°C, and Class H is 12°C. This rule is called 8°C law for heat aging. An insulating material composed of a high polymer has a heat resistance lower than that of an inorganic dielectric.

Transformer insulation material

The properties of insulating materials are closely related to their molecular composition and molecular structure. There are many kinds of transformer insulation materials, which can be divided into gas insulation materials, liquid insulation materials and solid insulation materials according to their forms.
